  • Peyote cactus

Peyote is a cactus from the deserts of Mexico and the United States that contains mescaline. Since ancient times, several indigenous peoples of North America and Mesoamerica have traditionally used peyote for medical and religious purposes.

Peyote, or Lophophora williamsii usually grows under shrubs and usually occurs in groups of three to more than fifty. Its growth is very slow and reaching adulthood can take up to 15 or 20 years.

Its shape and size is variable, some with round shapes reaching up to 20 centimetres in diameter. The knots have small tufts of thick greyish white hair. The name of the modern botanical classification of peyote, Lophophora, is due to this property, which means "I have tufts". In the middle of the upper part there is a small tip of very thick down, where at certain times of the year a light pink flower appears.

This cactus is known by many names including the following: peyote, piote, hikuli, hikuri, devil's root, mescal button, peote, earth cactus.

The green parts are harvested for their mescaline, a powerful entheogen. These specimens can be grown indoors.

    No shipping outside Europe.

These cacti are suitable for cultivation. Only when the cacti are a few years old, their above-ground part can be harvested (they do not have to be killed for this).
