Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) also called channa or chewy is a succulent plant that occurs in South Africa and has a long history. The Khoikhoi tribe (hottentots) used it as a euphoric stimulant.
The fermented plant is originally chewed, where the psycho-active substances are absorbed by swallowing the released saliva. Nowadays Kanna has various treatments and extractions. Because of this it can be administered in different ways. For example, Kanna can be snorted, smoked, evaporated or processed into tea.
